Walnut Bars

IMG_0380.JPG

This is another one of grandma Era’s recipes. She called these “cinnamon bars”, but I am renaming them walnut bars! These are very buttery and not overly sweet. They are super easy to make and would be a great quick dessert or dish to take to a potluck or party. I hope you enjoy!

Ingredients (Makes 9 bars):

  • 1 cup butter

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • 1 egg, yolk and white separated

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 cups sifted flour

  • 1 Tbs cinnamon

  • 3/4 cup chopped walnuts

Instuctions:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  • Cream butter and sugar together with a hand or stand mixer.

  • Add egg yolk and vanilla to the mixture. Beat together.

  • Sift together the flour and cinnamon in a separate bowl.

  • Slowly add flour mixture to the butter mixture.

  • Pat out batter into an un-greased 8x8 inch baking dish.

  • Brush with beaten egg white.

  • Sprinkle with walnuts, pressing lightly into the dough.

  • Bake for about 20 minutes or until a toothpick is inserted and comes out clean.

  • Cool, cut and enjoy!
